For those that don't know it, one of
the Ripley County Local Emergency Planning Committee hazmat
group members is leaving Friday.
Robert Garcia, a Corporal with the Indiana State Police at the
Versailles Post, has been called up for Iraq again. Bob said this is his
second time in the sand over there, the first was in the 90's.
An emotional sendoff was given to him Tuesday at the LEPC meeting in
Versailles. Bob has been an active member of the LEPC for several years
representing the Law Enforcement branch, and will continue when he
returns after a year of deployment.
Bob is married to Kelly, many will remember as a dispatcher at the
Versailles post for some time. In a strange twist for Kelly, her son
was one of the 3400 soldiers that were deployed last week at the sendoff
in Indianapolis last week, so two of that family will be gone overseas.
Bob added that Kevin Rohr, Deputy with the Decatur County Sheriff's
Dept is leaving Friday as well. They are in the same unit. Bob says they
are going to train police in Iraq and guard an air base.
Keep them in your thoughts.
(He said he "don't do that computer internet email stuff" but I'll bet
someone teaches him in the next year!
